Dear Friends and Neighbors,
The majority party’s income tax bill, Senate Bill 6346, is scheduled for a public hearing in the House Finance Committee on Tuesday, Feb. 24, at 8 a.m. As of this morning, more than 100,000 people have signed in to the House committee AGAINST the state income tax.
When the public hearing was held in the state Senate earlier this session, over 61,000 citizens officially signed in opposed. Many of us are concerned that the so-called “millionaire tax” will soon apply to all of us. History shows that once a tax is enacted, it does not go away; it is usually increased or expanded to bring in more dollars for the Legislature’s out-of-control spending.
Now is your opportunity to voice your support “pro” or “con” before, or during the hearing. Here are some links that may be helpful.

Some of the reasons I am opposed to this legislation:
- It becomes easier to expand. Once the state establishes any income tax, it becomes easier to lower the income brackets and possibly raise the rates.
- It is likely to be constitutionally challenged creating uncertainty and the litigation could be costly.
- It could drive out high earners and investors out of state.
- Its impact on small businesses. A high-rate income tax could raise taxes on small and mid-sized business owners, discouraging expansion and hiring.
- It puts our state at a competitive disadvantage. Washington currently has no personal income tax. Adding one could weaken the state’s economic competitiveness.
No matter your position on the legislation, you should provide some input and feedback. It is important for lawmakers to know how this legislation may impact you, your family, your business and your community.
