Rep. Manjarrez speaks out on the House floor against tax increases: Excise taxes
Rep. Deb Manjarrez, R-Wapato, has fought for lower taxes on food for Washington consumers. During debate of Senate Bill 5814 on April 23, 2025, Manjarrez offered Amendment 1415 that would have exempted retail sales taxes on any entity related to the food industry, including but not limited to farmers, restaurants, grocers, wholesalers, truck drivers and farmers markets.
Senate Bill 5814 bill extends retail sales taxes to certain services, making everyday life more expensive for all Washingtonians. Majority Democrats rejected Manjarrez’ amendment and passed the bill by a vote of 50-47.
